Flexible Instruction Day (FID)

What is a Flexible Instruction Day (FID)?
A Flexible Instruction Day is an alternate approach to the delivery of instruction when circumstances arise that prevent instruction in the customary manner. Students will be provided instruction asynchronously through the use of Google Classroom.  If the Superintendent determines a Flexible Instructional Day, students should make every effort to complete and submit assignments within the normal school hours as this flexible instruction day is in lieu of an in-person school day.

Expectations of Students

  • Complete and submit assignments posted in Google Classroom (Those without access may complete hard copy assignments). Assignments will be posted in your child’s Google Classroom as per the following schedule:
    • High School - 7:30 AM
    • Skyview/Arcola – 8:15 AM
    • Elementary Schools – 9:05 AM
  • Attend office hours and/or email teacher as needed. Office hours for staff will be posted in their Google Classroom where teachers will be available via Zoom/Google Meet to answer any questions.
  • All assigned work must be completed that day. If students are having accessibility issues and are unable to complete the assignment, students must contact their teacher. Students will not be penalized for work that needs to be submitted later due to accessibility issues as long as the assignment is received within three days of our return to school.
  • Attendance for the FID day is counted by having completed the posted assignment(s).

Expectations of Staff

  • For pending inclement weather:
    • Provide students with a hard copy of assignments in advance, when possible.
    • Encourage students to take home school-issued devices.
  • Post lesson/assignment in Google Classroom by the start of the student day.
  • Post and hold office hours: 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the afternoon.
  • Reply to emails.
  • Provide IEP and 504 supports as required.
  • Submit attendance based on work submissions.

Schools Closed

In the event that schools are closed during regular daytime hours due to inclement weather, all evening events, activities and Community Education Program classes will also be canceled.
