Art

Methacton School District’s elementary art program provides students with a strong foundation in creative expression by introducing a wide range of media, techniques, and artistic styles. Students learn to apply the elements of art and principles of design, use appropriate art vocabulary, and engage in the process of art criticism—describing, analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating artwork. The program emphasizes cultural awareness, values the creative process as much as the final product, and fosters a sense of community through student contributions. Art instruction is thoughtfully connected to the broader curriculum, enhancing learning across subject areas.

Library

In our elementary library program, students develop a love of reading, sharpen their research skills, and grow as curious, confident learners. From kindergarten through fourth grade, students engage in joyful and purposeful experiences with books, storytelling, and technology. Younger students explore picture books, listen to read-alouds, and practice choosing "just right" books that match their interests and reading levels. As students grow, they dive into a wider range of genres, learn how to find and evaluate information, and use digital tools responsibly to support learning across the curriculum. The library program fosters a lifelong appreciation for reading, supports academic growth, and nurtures independent, information-literate learners.

Physical Education and Health

In our elementary physical education and health classes, students build a strong foundation in movement, teamwork, and lifelong wellness. From kindergarten through fourth grade, students engage in fun and meaningful activities like playground games, dribbling, passing and shooting, and team-building exercises that promote physical development, leadership, and confidence. Beginning in third grade, students also attend health class, where they explore topics like nutrition, personal hygiene, the body systems, and how to make healthy choices. These classes support students in developing habits and values that promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
